Exposure To Diverse 
Experiences, books Storytelling

ChikuPiku foundation believes that children, irrespective of their socio-economic lorem text ipsum background, should have access.

Purpose

Through this initiative, the ChikuPiku foundation plans to give away books to children in bookshelves that can be hung around like a library in the classrooms.

Project

  • This initiative fosters a library-like atmosphere to encourage children to spend more time reading. The unique design of the bookshelf invites children to freely interact with storybooks attractively displayed on the wall, promoting shared reading and learning.
  • Around 20 schools in and around Pune are currently being targeted for this initiative.

Books are like windows and mirrors!

Children need windows to see new things, understand the world around them and the vast diversity of everything in it. They also need mirrors to reflect on what they already know, observe around them and feel connected to. Challenge is to provide such books in local languages that deliver the content with following qualities:

What is the Aim?

To donate this set to Anganwadi centres, libraries and underprivileged schools that can play an important role in promoting early literacy.

Benefits of Marathi Pustakalay

  • According to New Education Policy, young children learn and grasp nontrivial concepts more quickly in their home language/ mother tongue so it is crucial to provide them with marathi books that cater to variety of topics, concepts and scenarios.
  • Access to more books, stories and content that directly helps in child engagement in the classrooms plus more resources available to use as supporting material while teaching.

Topics relevant to today’s young children

  • Language style that is not too archaic and heavy
  • Contemporary mannerism of storytelling
  • Accompanied with colourful illustrations that attract young readers
  • Introduce variety of subjects that ignite curiosity
Marathi Pustakalay project aims to bring such content in light and enrich the libraries in preschools and primary schools with a curated book-set that fulfils above criteria. Donating this set to Anganwadi centres, libraries and underprivileged schools can play an important role in promoting early literacy. It can also be a pivotal factor in making the children bilingual readers in case of English medium schools.
